Focus of Republican Debate

Mallory George   Chief Iowa Correspondent

This debate will focus largely on Iowa issues, according to Carolyn Washburn, moderator of the debates and editor of the Des Moines Register.

She said the candidates will spend little time discussing the war in Iraq, terrorism, etc.

Rather, Washburn is basing her questions on a poll of Iowans indicating what they think are the most important issues, like the economy, which was the number one issue.

The candidates' answers are significantly important because 6 in 10 Iowas said they can still be persuaded in their votes.
