A Good Referee

Ryan O Neal   Columnist

One person who never gets credit for their performance in a championship match is the referee, and tonight the only person to have performed as well as Mike Huckabee was Anderson Cooper. His simple call of 'time' when the candidate needed to finish making their point was far less intrusive than Wolf Blitzer's continuous throat-clearings and attempts at flat-out interruption. He gave firm constraints and commanded control of the debate in a way that any good referee does - he lets them play, but calls the players to order when the occasion is needed.
